Leicester's favourite sons Kasabian have released their first single since 2017, entitled 'ALYGATYR'

Their first new music since the departure of former lead singer Tom Meighan, 'ALYGATYR' is a Serge Pizzorno composition and features Serge on lead vocals.

Danielle Perry will have the first live play of the single on Absolute Radio tonight from 7pm.

Opening with a screeching distorted synth melody over the top of a fuzzed-out guitar riff and Ian Matthews' trademark powerful drum sound, the song has all the elements of a thumping Kasabian crowd pleaser.

Serge's vocals kick in with a knowing bravado as he opens with the lyric "Get paid, roll like an alligatorrrr" showing that, on record at least, Kasabian's founder and chief songwriter is relishing his role as new frontman.

With lines like "Never back down, never back down" and "See you better rise from the ashes / Don't you wanna try just a little" it's a statement of intent that Kasabian have risen from the ashes and are ready to rock once more.

When will Kasabian release a new album?

Back in August 2019, Kasabian shared a photo on social media teasing 'Album 7'.

Since then, not only has Tom Meighan left the band, but the worldwide pandemic has put a halt to much of the music industry, including postponing Kasabian's huge homecoming 'SOLSTICE II' gig which was due to take place in June 2020 .

We can only assume that Kasabian have had material in the pipeline for some time and that, with the release of ALYGATYR, a new album won't be far off.

Kasabian UK tour dates

Kasabian are currently in the middle of a sold out 17 date UK tour, which began two weeks ago in Glasgow, marking their first live concerts in almost three years, and the first to see Serge step up and fill frontman duties.

Joining Serge, founding bassist Chris Edwards and drummer Ian Matthews on stage is The Music’s Rob Harvey, previously rumoured to be the band’s new singer, who performs additional guitar and backing vocals.

As well as this tour, Kasabian have also been announced as the headliner for Neighbourhood Weekender 2022, joining Courteeners, Blossoms and more.

Tickets are available from Absolute Radio Tickets
