A Bishopbriggs mum wants the law to give kids more protection in public.

Lorraine McMenemy's seven-year-old daughter was the subject of attention from a group of men in Buchanan Galleries at the end of last month.

They "sneakily" took photos of the kid with Lorraine only finding out when a member of the public let her know.

She confronted the group, who admitted taking photos before deleting them in-front of Lorraine.

That didn't stop her concern though as she admits worrying about where the photos could have been sent and why they were taken before she asked for them to be deleted.

She told Radio Clyde: "As a mum I felt anger that someone thinks it's acceptable to take photos of children they've never met before.

"They did it quite sneakily and zoomed right in to get the picture.

"I wanted to protect her and remove her from the situation."

Lorraine says security removed the men from the centre and police came to her home later in the day.

But she was stunned to be told there was nothing that could be done about the photography.

She continued: "I was astounded that there's not a law in place to protect some of the most vulnerable people in society.

"I don't know if these men sent the picture of my child on to someone else and what use that's for.

"I really feel there should be a law to prevent people from doing this.

"Where is that picture of my little girl now?"

A spokesperson for Buchanan Galleries said: “Our security team was approached by a member of the public who expressed concerns about the behaviour of a group of men.

"A member of our security approached the group and following a conversation with them they were asked to leave and were escorted from the centre.

"Safety and security of our staff and visitors is our highest priority and we will always work with Police Scotland on any matter of concern.”

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
