Pensioner dies in A77 crash near Newton Mearns

The 73-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene near to Greenhaggs Recycling Centre

A 73-year-old man's died following a crash on the A77 in Newton Mearns on Saturday evening.

The single-vehicle crash happened near to Greenhaggs Recycling Centre and involved a Ford Transit van around 5.15pm.

The man - who was driving the van - was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Sergeant Paul Mellis, from the Glasgow Road Policing Unit, said:

“At this time, our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the deceased.

“Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing. We know that a number of motorists and members of the public stopped to assist at the scene, prior to emergency services arriving, and I would ask anyone who has not spoken to police to please get in touch.
