Pop icon Robbie Williams will launch Downtown’s switch to 100% Christmas Music playlist from Tuesday 1st December.

Following on from the huge success last year which saw audiences soar, ‘Downtown’ will once again become ‘the Home of Christmas Music for Northern Ireland this December.

In an unprecedented move for a radio station here, Downtown will ‘format flip’ – replacing its regular playlist with only Christmas music right through to Boxing Day and becoming the only ‘100% Christmas Music’ station in Northern Ireland.

Pop icon Robbie Williams will launch ‘Downtown Christmas’ alongside Breakfast presenters Gary and Glen at 8am on 1st December kicking off with Robbie’s brand new Christmas single ‘Can’t Stop Christmas’ – a timely track that tackles the festive season during a time of COVID-19 with nods to facetimes, zooms and getting hand sanitiser as a present . The single is taken from Robbie’s double repackaged Christmas album ‘The Christmas Present’.

Content Director for Downtown Radio Stuart Robinson, said: “We are excited about getting Downtown Christmas on the air again, it was a gamble last year but it paid off for us with a big increase in our audience figures including record ratings for in our digital listening – so the decision was easier this year, especially considering the kind of year we’ve had!”

“We are particularly delighted that Robbie has agreed to come onboard to help us kick off Christmas at Downtown in what has been very difficult and bizarre time for us all. We believe people will be looking for an extra dose of festive cheer this year and will be even more receptive to our 100% Christmas format”.

Downtown Christmas will also be supporting the Cash For Kids ‘Mission Christmas’ appeal throughout December with the aim that listeners donate a gift to help ensure that no child in Northern Ireland goes without on Christmas morning. You can find out how to donate here.

Downtown’s switch to all ‘Christmas Music’ can be heard all over Northern Ireland via FM, AM, DAB or by downloading the Downtown app. or asking your smart speaker to ‘play Downtown Radio’ plus listeners in Belfast, Newtownabbey, Carrickfergus and Holywood will now be able to tune in on Downtown’s newest frequency of 103.4FM.
