The Tiger’s Bay man was preparing to start his morning training regime as he took the call and chatted about life as a family man and taking some time off. The 29-year-old also challenged Mexican fighter Leo Santa Cruz to a rematch.

The Belfast boxer’s WBA featherweight title was regained by Santa Cruz in a Las Vegas rematch back in January this year. The defeat was the first loss in Frampton’s professional career and there has been rumour and speculation ever since of a deciding rematch in Belfast.

After the fight, Frampton took some time out to spend quality time with his family and give his body a rest from his gruelling training regime. Now, the Jackal says he is keen to get back in the ring.

“It’s the longest break I’ve ever had in between training camps and it’s nice to be with your family but you start getting itchy knuckles,” he said.

The Jackal also teased that plans are in the making for a big upcoming contest.

“We’re working away and we’re pretty close to getting something done but I can’t say too much.

“We’re looking obviously at some point in my career to fight Leo Santa Cruz again I think that will have to happen because you can’t really leave it at 1-all.

“We’re pushing for the fight on our side so if it doesn’t happen it will not look good on his record when you’re speaking about it in ten or twenty years time.

“I’m pretty confident at some point the fight will happen, we’re looking to do it in the UK, whether or not he wants to travel that’s another matter but if I have to go back to the States I’m happy to do that too.”
