Temperatures are set to dramatically drop this week, with parts of Scotland and England expecting sleet and snow in the next few days. Could Northern Ireland see a dusting too?

The Met Office suggests that we're in for a chilly few weeks ahead: "Confidence remains low for this period. More settled conditions are expected, with the potential for higher pressure over the UK, leading to drier weather.

Their long range forecast reads: "It will likely continue to be cold with further showers for much of the UK, which will fall as sleet and snow across the north leading to some accumulations of snow across higher ground, showers falling as rain or sleet more likely in parts of the south."

The north of Scotland has a warning for snow, a yellow weather warning for strong snow blizzards has been issued for Wednesday.

"Wintry showers" and "overnight frosts" are expected across Northern Ireland this week, however sunshine is still forecast, highs of 6 to 7 degrees.

Northern Ireland's forecast 👇

Monday: A bright day with sunny spells and a few showers, these mainly in eastern coastal parts. Best of the sunshine again in the west. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday: Mainly dry and bright on Tuesday. Turning colder, as winds become northerly, through Wednesday and Thursday with, across northern counties, increasingly wintry showers, the south remaining dry with overnight frosts.****
