Following Carl Frampton’s defeat at the hands of Leo Santa Cruz in Las Vegas, Northern Ireland fans could get more than they bargained for with a Belfast showdown looking like it could be on the cards.

The Jackal lost in a narrow majority decision after 12 rounds when his Mexican opponent regained his WBA super featherweight title.

But the bout between the two fighters could be settled once and for all on Frampton’s home turf. He teased fans by hinting at a Belfast rematch to settle the score card.

The Tigers Bay man even extended a warm Irish welcome, inviting Santa Cruz to stay in his family home.

“He can come and stay in my house if he wants and we could get it on for a third time,” Frampton told reporters.

He added: “After that I’d be happy to go to LA, who knows this could be three, four, five, they were great fights so let’s give the fans what they want.”

Rory McIlroy took to Twitter to console his old pal.

The pair are keen followers of all things sport, they were spotted together watching a Northern Ireland qualifier recently and we have no doubt this face-off would attract a number of other famous faces.
