Ellie Goulding speaks out about her mental health during Mental Health Awareness Week

Pop star Ellie Goulding has spoken out about her experiences with mental health issues, telling us she used to have anxiety attacks, as a result of, "Always been anxious and holding a lot of tension and being scared of everything".

The 'Close To Me' singer went on to say how many people were surprised when she was so open about her mental health, however now, she's glad it's no longer as much of a 'taboo' and it makes her happy.

Ellie went on to explain, "There are sometimes when I want to take myself away from everything and just kind of deal with stuff myself, and I really have to force myself to text someone or call someone and say 'I'm not feeling good'."

The pop star also said she thinks men find it hard to chat about how they're feeling. "I know they feel it hard to reach out," she said, speaking about the men in her life, including her partner, Dad and brother. Ellie ended her interview saying that it is important to talk.

This week, 13th - 19th May, is Mental Health Awareness Week and the theme this year is Body Image – how we think and feel about our bodies. The annual Mental Health Awareness Week is designed to raise awareness of mental health and mental health problems. It also aims to inspire action to promote the message of good mental health for all.
