£80,000 of damage caused as thieves steal truck from Gorebridge sewage works

Thieves who stole a dump truck from a sewage works caused about £80,000 of damage during the raid, police have revealed.

An investigation is under way after the break-in and theft from the site on Station Road, Gorebridge, Midlothian.

A dump truck was stolen and those responsible caused damage to the site as they drove it away. The vehicle was later found abandoned a short distance away, Police Scotland said.

A JCB digger, forklift digger and another dump truck were also broken into during the incident, which happened sometime between 12.30pm on Saturday July 9 and 7.30am on Monday.

Sergeant Stuart Aitchison, from Dalkeith police station, said: As a result of this break-in, the attempted theft of several plant vehicles and the successful theft of one dumper truck, approximately £80,000 worth of damage has been caused and we are pursuing various lines of inquiry to trace whoever was responsible.
