David Bowie 'immersive cinematic experience' is in the making
The film is made up of unseen performance footage
Fans of music legend David Bowie will be pleased to know that there's a new film being put together which showcases his music career with never-before-seen footage. Although there isn't a title or release date yet, the film's director has started discussing the project and there is talk about the film's release coinciding with the anniversary of David Bowie's death on 10th January.
The film is being created by award-winning director Brett Morgen, known for his work on similar projects such as Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck (about the Nirvana frontman's life), The Kid Stays in the Picture (which is about Hollywood producer Robert Evans), as well as the film Jane (made about primatologist Jane Goodall).
Brett spoke to Variety about the project and revealed that he has spent the past four years sorting through thousands of hours of rare performance footage to bring the film together.
The project has also brought in David's producer Tony Visconti as the film's music producer, as well as the Oscar-winning sound team who worked on the 2018 Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.
There have been other films made about the 'Space Oddity' singer's life in the past, which David refused to license his music for. Since his passing, his family have also been against biopics about his life as it goes against his wishes. Iman, David's widow said: "It’s always a no. We always ask each other, ‘Would he do it?’ He wouldn’t."
This upcoming film does however have the approval of David Bowie's estate, as the focus is on the music and showing footage from David's performances, rather than being an on-screen recreation of his life. The film has been described as being is neither a biopic nor a documentary, and will instead be 'an immersive cinematic experience'.
David Bowie's legacy has also been honoured with a pop-up shop and interactive experience appearing in London and New York in October as part of a celebration of what would have been his 75th birthday. The pop-up in London is at the site of the cover of his 'The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars' album and showcases props from David's music career, brings elements of his music to life, as well as selling a wide range of merchandise.

The David Bowie pop-up shop opened at the location of 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars' album cover at 14 Heddon St in London on 25th October 2021.
It offers the chance to buy David Bowie memorabilia and provides an amazing interactive experience.

Fans can immerse themselves in Bowie's music when they step into the 360 experience and listen to his famous tracks as well as unheard audio in the surround sound booth.

The Ground Control to Major Tom interactive exhibit allows fans to write messages to David Bowie, which will be displayed on the exhibit's website.

CDs and DVDs
Fans can buy David Bowie's albums and singles on CD and Vinyl, as well as DVDs from his performances like the worldwide concert A Reality Tour which ran from 2003-2004.

The pop up shop has loads of merchandise to buy, including T-shirts, hoodies, bags, cups, and books about the music legend.
David Bowie Magnet Wall
