15 years after the first film came out, James Marsden has suggested that a new Hairspray film could be on the way. The news comes as James has just finished shooting a sequel to Enchanted, another true modern classic.

James shared this exciting news during an interview with metro.co.uk, promoting the Home Entertainment release of The Boss Baby: Family Business. He said: "I did Enchanted then went right to Hairspray."

"And we just did a sequel to Enchanted 15 years later. So hopefully, I think, maybe soon we’ll do a sequel? Usually, it’s a couple of years after the first one, or never. But Enchanted seemed to bypass that law."

This is some very promising news for fans of the original. There's definitely the interest, and as one of the main stars has expressed his desire to return for a sequel, this could really get the ball rolling.

James went on to describe his work on Hairspray as "probably the most fun I’ve ever had on a movie."

He went on to say: "It was it was like, we were all just having a singing and dance party and someone happened to be filming it. It was the closest I’ve ever been to being on Broadway, right? We’re all doing vocal lessons and dance lessons and performing these numbers – by the end of the movie, we could have performed that on stage."

He then added: "I hope they finally make a Hairspray sequel!"

Check out which movie stars found love on set:

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt

When you think of film-set romance, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt immediately come to mind. The pair met on the set of Mr & Mrs Smith. Their closeness on set instantly caused controversy since Pitt was married to Jennifer Aniston at the time and was later 'the reason' Brad and Jen split.
Angelina and Brad got together soon after and she fell pregnant with their first child in 2006 and they married in 2014.
However, their marriage broke down and Angelina filed for divorce in 2016.

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher

These two go way way back! Mila and Ashton meet on the set of That 70's show when she was 15 and he was 20. Despite their characters dating on the show, they only started dating when they bumped into each other in 2012.
They are a true success story, having got married in 2015 and welcoming two children together, Wyatt and Dimitri.

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively

Hollywood golden couple Ryan and Blake met on the set of Green Latern in 2011 but their romance was a slow burner at the start. Ryan revealed: "We were friends and buddies, and then about a year and a half later, we actually went on a double date but we were dating separate people."

They tied the knot in 2012 and have three children together.

Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan

Channing Tatums and Jenna Dewan's on-screen relationship in noughties classic Step Up quickly transcended into real life as they fell in love during filming the first film. After dating for three years, they married in 2009 and welcomed a daughter, Everly in 2013.

However, the couple announced they were separating in 2018.

Kit Harington and Rose Leslie

Game Of Thrones lead character Jon Snow (played by Kit) fell for co-star Rose (who played wildling Ygritte) on set for the popular series and were soon dating in real life not long after filming wrapped.

Daniel Craig and Rachel Weiz

Fate officially brought Daniel and Rachel together! After going to the same university together, they reunited when they performed in the same play at the National Theatre Studio in 1994. They crossed paths again on the set of 2011 film Dream House and the friendship turned to romance.

Tom Holland and Zendaya

Tom and Zendaya confirmed they were dating in late 2021 after meeting on the set of Spiderman: No Way Home. However, the two actors were warned not to get involved with each other by a Sony Pictures boss Amy Pascal.
"I took Tom and Zendaya aside, separately, when we first cast them and gave them a lecture," she told The New York Times. "Don't go there – just don't. Try not to."

We're so glad they didn't listen! Couple goals.

With shooting finished on the Enchanted sequel that is set to be released on Disney+ later this year, it really does look like there could soon be a Hairspray sequel in development - or this could just be wishful thinking on our part (and maybe James' too).
