Roxette's Per Gessle pays touching tribute to Marie Fredriksson on the first anniversary of her death

On 9th December 2019, Marie Fredriksson who was one half of the Roxette duo passed away after a long illness, however she hasn't been forgotten by fans around the world, or Per Gessle - the other half of the Roxette duo.

Now, a year since the singer passed away, the official Roxette social accounts have paid tribute to the late singer saying, 'Today one year has passed since Marie left us after her long illness.

Since posting the photo of Marie more than 11K people have liked the Facebook post, and over 1000 people have left comments. One said, 'Amazing voice,listening to Roxette was a huge part of my childhood,r.i.p Marie xx' (sic), another said, 'Thankfully her beautiful voice through their songs will be around forever. Never forgotten.'

To mark the anniversary of Marie's death, the last song she recorded has also been released as the family’s initiative to honour the memory of Marie. The song called 'Sea of Love' and was inspired by demonstrations in Stockholm after the terrorist attack on Drottninggatan 2017.

Roxette's first success outside their native Sweden started back in 1989, with the release of their iconic song 'The Look' which was a Number 1 song here in the UK. That was quickly followed by 'Dressed for Success', 'Listen to Your Heart' and 'Dangerous'.

The duo went on to have huge success for many decades, with two Number 1s in the early 90s, including 'It Must Have Been Love', and 'Joyride', followed by their Number 2 hit 'Fading Like a Flower (Every Time You Leave)'.
