Celebrating 45 years in the music industry, UB40 have some exciting things in store for fans with a new album 'UB45' in the works and an arena tour planned. Ahead of releasing the album, they shared the debut single, which is also the official anthem of The 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The 2022 event is being held in Birmingham and will be the first time the Commonwealth Games has been held in England for 20 years. The opening ceremony will take place on 28th July with Duran Duran headlining the show, and the sporting event will run until 8th August.

The track 'Champion' was released on 15th July ahead of the event featuring Dapz on the Map. As well as being part of UB40's upcoming album, the song will also be available as part of the multi-artist album 'On Record' produced by Birmingham Music Archive. The album has 11 original songs written about the city which have been exclusively created.

Speaking about the track, the band's founder Robin Campbell said: "We are proud to be representing the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games with the official anthem ‘Champion’.

"Birmingham represents the best of global Britain and it is our job to showcase this to the world. The song is about celebrating the cultural diversity of Birmingham. Birmingham is a city of champions!"

Lead singer Matt Doyle also commented: "'Champion' is all about positivity. It's about being uplifted and putting that energy into whatever gets you up in the morning - whether it be music, art or sport or whatever it is.

"It’s about doing what you do best and excelling at that, celebrating being a champion."
