Ayrshire Police seize £3,500 of illegal vapes and counterfeit tobacco

Police in Ayrshire have seized thousands of pounds worth of illegal vape and tobacco products in local shops today.

As part of their work to crack down on illicit nicotine goods, police teamed up with North Ayrshire Trading Standards to visit a number of vape retailers in the area.

An estimated retail value of £3,500 worth of illegal produce has now been seized for destruction.

When visiting one store in Irvine, officers found illicit products such as counterfeit loose tobacco and disposable vapes.

Some of the vape products contained a nicotine level equivalent to 700 cigarettes within one disposable unit.

Officers say they’re continuing to work against illegal produce after having nicotine and vape products highlighted as serious concern from people within the area.

A spokesperson said: “Feedback from our local community continues to highlight concerns about illegal Nicotine Vape Products and their sales to the underaged.

An estimated retail value of £3,500 of illegal produce has now been seized for destruction.
