Patrols are being increased and crime prevention advice is being offered to residents following a series of burglaries across East Herts.

Multiple reports of burglaries, which took place on and around Saturday 22 January and Wednesday 26 January, have been received across Bishop’s Stortford, Buntingford and Ware with officers urging people to review their home security.

Detective Inspector Christopher Ross, of the East Herts Local Crime Unit, said: “We are reminding residents about the importance of home security and crime prevention.

“Please take a few minutes to review your homes, vehicles and property to ensure you are leaving them secure and not vulnerable to opportunist thieves.

“We don’t want anyone to become victims of crime.

“Our Local Crime Unit detectives are carrying out extensive enquiries into these recent burglaries which are being linked.

“We want to make the public aware that reports have contained information of four males arriving in a vehicle, parking outside a targeted address, offending and leaving using the same vehicle.

“We are speaking to residents in those neighbourhoods affected to provide crime prevention advice as well as increasing our patrols to keep you safe.

“If you have any information which may assist our investigations, please contact us.”

Hertfordshire Constabulary is offering the following crime prevention advice:

-Make your home less inviting to a burglar by closing and securely locking all windows and doors when you go out.

  • Install dusk to dawn external lighting.
  • Consider installing a doorbell camera and monitored burglar alarm.
  • Keep keys and valuables secure and out of sight.
  • Ensure boundary fences are secure with side gates locked.
  • Keep tools and ladders in a locked shed as these items can be used against you to gain access to your property.
  • Secure bins at night and put garden furniture away for the winter as these can be used by burglars as climbing aids to gain access to upper floor windows.
  • Ensure your vehicle is locked and remove all valuables as burglars often check to see if doors are left unlocked.
