Emergency services are responding to an ongoing fire in a St Albans car workshop.

Crews were first alerted to reports of an explosion in Orient Close at 11:03am with efforts currently underway to control the blaze.

Closures are in place on the surrounding roads of Alma Road and Cunningham Avenue with St Albans Police asking people to avoid the area.

In a statement, Hertfordshire council said:

"Efforts are being made to stop fire spreading to neighbouring properties – a row of commercial units 150m x 30. All units evacuated."
