A motorbike rider has died after a crash between Hatfield and Welham Green yesterday evening (22 July).

At around 8.55pm, a Honda VTR motorcycle was involved in a collision with a Mercedes on the Great North Road, near to GT Towing.

Sergeant Tim Davies, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said:

"The rider of the motorcycle, a man aged in his 40s, sadly died at the scene.

"His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

"Our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time.

"We are working to establish exactly how this collision occurred and are appealing for anyone who was travelling along the Great North Road and saw the motorcycle prior to the collision, or witnessed the collision itself, to please get in touch.

"We believe some witnesses may have left the scene prior to police arrival so if you have information and have not yet spoken to us, please come forward as soon as possible.

"If you have a dash cam fitted to your vehicle and were travelling on the Great North Road around the time of yesterday’s collision, please check it to see if you have captured any footage that may help our investigation."

The driver of the car – a man aged in his 20s – was uninjured and remained at the scene to assist police with their enquiries.
