A 57-year-old man's appeared in court charged with a series of sexual offences, alleged to have taken place in the Borders over the past 20 years - including two counts of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13.

Ian Maxwell - who gave an address in South Lanarkshire - is also accused of voyeurism towards a young child and causing a young child to look at a sexual image.

He's further accused of voyeurism towards an older child and causing an older child to look at a sexual image; and coercing a person into being present during a sexual activity.

Maxwell faced a total of 16 charges - including assault and threatening or abusive behaviour - when he appeared in private at Selkirk Sheriff Court today (Monday).

He made no plea, was committed for further examination, and released on bail.

The date of his next court appearance is yet to be confirmed.
