It was the last monastic house to be established in Scotland, and was attacked and burned three times in 30 years during the 16th Century before eventually being demolished.

The ruins at The Friary in Jedburgh have been listed as a scheduled monument of significance for many years with Historic Scotland.

But it appears is has been the target of another attack.

According to police, re-laid excavated stones at The Friary ruins have been moved, and stonework has been chipped, cracked and loosened during an apparent vandal attack.

Officers are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

A spokesperson said: "Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact 101, quoting incident 2504 June 28th, 2023."
