Rapist who attacked two women in Cambridge jailed
The 33-year-old has also been handed an indefinite restraining order
A man who sexually assaulted a woman and then went on to rape another in Cambridge has been given a sentence of 17 years.
Sean Spooner, 33, approached the first victim at a venue in Cambridge in the early hours of Tuesday, 28 June, 2022.
After speaking to her on a few occasions, Spooner later began kissing her and became aggressive, touching her inappropriately, despite her asking him to stop.
The victim pushed him away and her friends pointed Spooner out to doorstaff who ejected him.
Spooner then raped his second victim in Market Square at about 3.30am.
He had already approached the victim inside the same venue and went up to her again outside before raping her.
On Thursday (9/5), at Cambridge Crown Court, Spooner, of Castle Street, Cambridge, was given an extended sentence of 17 years, having been found guilty of one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape and two counts of assault by penetration.
He will serve 11 years in prison with a further six on extended licence and is subject to indefinite restraining orders.
Detective Sergeant Elaine Penniket said: “Spooner’s predatory behaviour has left two women with lasting long-term psychological trauma.
“I would like to thank them for their bravery in helping support us with a prosecution and also appearing to give evidence in court. I hope this sentence gives them a little bit of closure from these horrific events.
“As for Spooner, I am glad he is behind bars because he is a danger to women.”
