Investigations continue into the cause of a fire this morning at Sims scrap metal in Exeter's Marsh Barton area.

At its height eight fire engines and vehicles were called to the scene at the recycling and landfill site - where a huge plume of smoke could be seen overhead.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue were called just after 10am.

The incident has now been scaled back

A spokesperson for Sims Metal said: "At approximately 10:00am, we experienced a fire at our Exeter facility.

"Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was called, and they extinguished the fire at approximately 12:15pm.

"We apologise to our local neighbours for any disruption caused.

"No injuries were sustained as a result of this incident, and we are in the process of investigating the cause of the fire."
