Residents and businesses across Devon and Cornwall are being urged to "stay alert" to flood warnings after more heavy rainfall could cause disruption.

More heavy rain is expected to have fallen overnight (Friday 13 January) and throughout today (Saturday 14 January).

The Environmental Agency are warning that although river levels are receding, after recent heavy rain and flooding river levels are set to rise again through the day.

This could continue well into Saturday evening.

Marc Lidderth, from the Environment Agency, said: "There is heavy rainfall due to land over the next few days and over next week so this is meaning we will see minor localised surface water and river flooding happening and this is probably likely to continue".

The Environment Agency has already issued a number of Flood Alerts and we expect to issue Flood Warnings early on Saturday and through the day, in both Devon and Cornwall.

On top of the recent rain, impacts are likely to be most significant in catchments fed by higher ground such as Exmoor and Dartmoor, but could be more widespread.

This could lead to road and property flooding, including in areas affected by the more recent flooding.

The Environment Agency is monitoring flood levels, issuing warnings, operating flood gates and barriers at locations across the Area and ensuring debris screens are clear from blockages to ensure communities are better protected.

They advise people to stay away from swollen rivers and urge people not to drive through flood water.
