Key roads in Bournemouth face closures as part of a 20-week project to make them more cyclist and pedestrian-friendly.

It's the final stage of works in the Glenferness Avenue area - with work due to get underway on Monday 20 May.

The scheme will see widen paths for bikers and walkers, a new 20 mph zone, and improvements to crossings.

It's part of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council's plans for more sustainable travel from the town centre to Talbot Woods, Winton and Wallisdown.

The initial work will focus on the Glenferness Avenue and Leven Avenue junction, which will be closed whilst this takes place.

There'll then be temporary closures as work is carried out at these junctions:

  • Leven Avenue, Walsford Road and Benellen Avenue
  • Benellen Road and Glenferness Avenue
  • Walsford Road and Glenferness Avenue
  • Benellen Gardens and Branksome Wood Road
  • Benellen Road and Benellen Avenue

Diversion will be signposted for drivers, whilst cycling and walking routes will remain open throughout the length of the works.
