Charities and communities groups will soon start benefitting from the profits of Dorchester's Sunday car boot sales once again.

The grants were stopped when Covid restrictions closed the sales, but will resume in the coming weeks, after the event's successful return.

Dorchester Town Council's joint markets panel's been told there's currently £28,700 in the car boot charity fund.

Local groups will be invited to bid for a share of the cash in the Autumn, with councillors decided where the money should be awarded.

The fund is open to community and voluntary organisations which are within 6.67miles of Dorchester’s Cornhill.

Those applying need to fulfil certain criteria to be eligible too, like having a written constitution, having safeguarding policies where appropriate, and providing bank statements for financial clarity.

More details about the application process will be released in due course.
