New Dorset Police cadet unit opens in Blandford
It's the fifth unit across the county, for 13 to 17 year olds
A new Dorset Police cadet unit has been opened by the force, with sessions now running in Blandford.
The sessions give 13 to 17 year olds a chance to learn about the law, policing procedures and specialist units, while also building communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
There's already successful cadet units running in Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch and Weymouth.
Dorset Police is also looking for volunteers to help run the units.
They don't need to have policing experience, but need to be available for weekly meetings, supporting outdoor activities and willing to support young people through their involvement.
Assistant Chief Officer Jo Mosley, Director of People and Support Services at Dorset Police, said:
"Being a cadet leader is not just about meeting our Force vision and local policing priorities. It's about being instrumental in the development, encouragement, and empowerment of the young people of Dorset. It's about giving them a voice and helping them achieve things they never believed possible. It's about making a lasting difference in their lives and our community.
