Leicestershire man jailed for sexually abusing child when he was a teenager
He committed the offences in 2009 and 2010, when he was 13 years old
A Leicestershire man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for sexual assaulting a young boy when he was a teenager.
Joseph Wright, 26, formerly of Copt Oak Road, Narborough was sentenced on Tuesday (12th October) at Leicester Crown Court.
He was sentenced for the following offences:
Three counts of assault a boy under 13 by touching
Four counts of rape of a boy under 13
Two counts of causing/inciting a boy under 13 to engage in sexual activity - penetration
Two counts of causing/inciting a boy under 13 to engage in sexual activity – no penetration
The conviction relates to offences carried out in 2009 and 2010 against a 10-year-old boy when Wright was 13-years-old.
The victim contacted police in 2017 to report the abuse and an investigation was carried out by specialist officers supporting the victim.
Wright was interviewed by officers and denied the allegations however following a full and thorough police investigation, he was subsequently summoned to court to face criminal proceedings for these offences.
He was found guilty of all charges at a trial last month at Leicester Crown Court.
Jim Wood, from the force’s Signal team, said: “This man did a tremendously brave thing by coming forward and reporting to us the abuse he suffered, abuse that happened many years ago when he was such a young child.
“It took an enormous amount of courage for him to contact police and not just relive what he went through with our officers but at court as well during the trial.
“While the conviction doesn’t take away the pain and stress Wright has caused him, I do hope it will contribute in some small way, in helping him live his life knowing Wright has been forced to face to the terrifying abuse he carried out against him.”
