The army is expected to arrive in Hull this week to start deliver mass coronavirus testing.

Hull MP Emma Hardy has confirmed the news on Twitter, with the Government telling her to expect the military planners to arrive in East Yorkshire on Friday.

They'll help local health leaders with the logistics of delivering mass testing- now East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire has moved into Tier 3 restrictions.

MPs had challenged the Prime-Minister on what support would be given to Hull to implement mass testing.

It follows discussions between local leaders about extra support for the city- which at one point had the highest level of coronavirus cases in the country.

Students are also being tested ahead of an operation to send them home ahead of Christmas.

On Monday, a new rapid coronavirus testing site opened in the sports hall.

From Thursday, students can begin heading home for the holidays.
