Walking the dog is always a treat, not just for the dog but also for you; it gets you outside in the fresh air and also keeps you fit – more than you’d think. However, sometimes going on the same route to walk your dog can be monotonous for both of you. So, to keep your dog barking with joy, here are the top five places to walk your dog in East Yorkshire!

1. Bridlington South Beach
Yes the dog may go in the sea and get wet. Yes the dog may bring the whole beach back with them in the car but what dog doesn’t love the beach? The reason why Bridlington South Beach is one of the ultimate places to walk your dog is because it’s just so open and long. You can walk for miles on end by going along the coast and pass Wilsthorpe and then towards Barmston and Hornsea, if the tides are out. It’s a wonderful, easy, flat sandy beach that’s perfect for dog walkers, especially in winter.
2. Humber Bridge Country Park
In a lovely woodland area next to the iconic Humber Bridge, this country park has three trails to offer; the Cliff Trail (3km), the Meadow Trail (1.25km) and the Pond Trail (2.5km) – each one giving you a different scenic view of the park. If the dog still wants more, you have the whole park to play catch with and there’s also a public right of way that goes along the River Humber. Then, when the dog is finally tired, you can stop at the café and grab a bite to eat.
3. Hedon
Compared to the first two, this walk does not offer a chance for you to let your dog loose. However, by starting in the market square on St Augustines Gate and then walking around the boundaries of the little town of Hedon, east of Hull, you will see the historic beauty it holds. This includes the last stretch, which is along the disused Hull to Withernsea railway line. Going along a variety of tracks, you and your dog will love this area.
4. Hornsea Beach
Though it’s quite a stony beach, Hornsea beach is excellent for walking with dogs. It has a fantastic stretch of beach to walk along as the waves gently move in and out. It’s open, quiet, and picturesque any time of the day or year - very ideal for dog walkers. There are also cafes and places to get fish & chips whilst on your walk.
5. North Cave Circular
This walk is for the more adventurous dogs. It’s a distance of 15 miles. Starting at Stoney Carr Farm, you can take your dog north and then around and through Hotham, North Cave and pass Mires Beck. There are lots of wonderful views to take in. It’s a walk that could take you most of the day, especially if you stop for refreshments, but just think how happy your dog will be for doing it!
