Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has shared a positive update on her chemotherapy treatment as she told fans: 'the finish line is in sight.' The 33-year-old dancer has been undergoing treatment after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Taking to Instagram, Amy shared a photo of her and a friend in hospital, with the pair both holding up seven fingers. She wrote: 'Yayyyyy my blood platelets were all good to go for chemo 7 and it was lovely @kiimmbo.6 7th too (a fellow pink sister on a similar journey) for us both next session we should be ringing that chemo bell and I simply cannot wait! So good to chat again today all things chemo and breast cancer. The finish line is in sight for us lovely.'

Amy continued: 'Thanks as always to the incredible Sheldon Unit who always go above and beyond to make us comfortable and happy as can be! Right I’m on the sofa resting up. Thanks all for crossing everything and for all your well wishes!' (sic)

The post was met with hundreds of supportive comments from fans and Amy's fellow Strictly stars. Vito Coppola wrote: 'Beautiful Amy we are counting with you every single say and we cannot wait for your return, and personally I'm looking forward to spin and lift youuuu. Let's goooo Amyyyyy.' (sic)

Fleur East commented: 'One step closer to ringing that bell!' McFly star Tom Fletcher, who danced with Amy in 2021, said: 'Yes Amy!'

Former Strictly judge Arlene Phillips added: 'Wow. You blow my mind. Your spirit is truly to be admired and you're fearlessness astounding. Go go go dancing girl. With all the 💕.' (sic)

Amy has been at some of the Strictly live shows, including reading out the terms and conditions during movie week. During an appearance on Loose Women, Amy spoke about how supportive her Strictly family have been.

She said: "They’ve been absolutely amazing. And that’s the heartbreaking thing, I get into dance mode and you know on a Saturday, I know that everyone is in hair and makeup and you know the songs that are about to play and I would do anything to be there right now but I’ve got to be patient.

“I keep saying to myself, ‘This too shall pass’ and unfortunately, people are getting diagnosed every day with breast cancer - I just hope that I can give them some encouragement, that they can see that I got through it and I got back on the dancefloor and that there is light at the end of the tunnel.”
