Essex Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was seriously assaulted in Southend.

Officers were called around 7:45am yesterday morning (May 1st) to North Avenue where a 16-year-old boy was assaulted, leaving him with serious head and arm injuries.

He was taken to hospital and remains in a serious condition.

Police say they've made no arrests yet but "extensive enquiries" are being carried out.

It's the second assault in the district this week, but officer's don't believe the incidents to be linked.

Anyone with information, or footage, is asked to contact the force.

District Commander for Southend Jo Collins said:

“I'm aware that this assault will be causing concern amongst the community but I can assure you that we are working quickly to establish what has happened.

“We have seen two serious assaults in the district this week, however we don’t believe these to be connected and we are treating them as isolated incidents.

“Residents will see an increased police presence in the area whilst enquiries for both investigations continue. I’d encourage anyone with any concerns to speak with our officers."
