A man's died in Southend, after police were called concerns for his welfare.

Essex Police say they're investigating the death of a man in his 40's, after they were called to Marine Parade around 11:55pm on Saturday (March 23).

The man died at the scene, his family are being supported by officers.

Officers say the death is being treated as unexpected, and is under investigation, but they are keeping an open mind about the cause of death.

A man's been arrested in connection with Police enquiries, and remains in custody.

Anyone with CCTV, information, dash cam footage or who witnessed anything in relation to the incident is asked to contact Essex Police.

Detective Chief Inspector Ant Alcock, who leads the investigation, said:

"I understand that this may cause concern among the local community, but I want to reassure the public that we are working quickly to establish what happened in the period of time before the man’s death.

"At this time, we are keeping an open mind about the cause of death but the man’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

"We would ask anyone who was in the area last night to get in contact with us if they have anything that could help our investigation."
