Detectives in Essex have launched an attemped murder investigation following a serious assault in Southend.

Officers were called in the early hours of Monday morning (April 29th), around 4am, to reports of a 19-year-old woman being seriously assaulted in St Marys Court on Victoria Avenue.

She was found with multiple stab wounds and taken to hospital. She remains in a serious condition with potentially life-changing injuries.

Three men and a woman from Southend were arrested by officers on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and have since been released on bail.

An appeal for witnesses, information and footage is underway.

Deputy Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector James Holmes said “We are working quickly to establish the circumstances around this assault, where a young woman has been left with significant injuries.

“Our early enquiries indicate that two people, a white man and a black man left the scene shortly after the assault and we are looking for the public’s help to identify them.

“We are asking anyone who was driving in or lives in the vicinity of Victoria Avenue in Southend at around 3:30am on Monday, 29 April to contact us with any dashcam footage, CCTV footage or any information.

“A Major Incident Public Portal has been created as a way for the public to submit information. Alternatively, you can contact us using the usual channels in order to help us find those responsible.”
