Firefighters have extinguished a blaze in West Tilbury, involving eight lorries.

They were called to Turnpike Lane at 11:46pm last night, after reports of smoke, to find eight lorries on fire in a yard.

Six crews attended the scene, as well as a Water Bowser to help shuttle water, due to the remote location of the fire.

Firefighters stopped the spread of the blaze to nearby units and extinguished the fire.

Station Manager Dean Riley said: “Crews worked quickly to establish a water supply and this helped firefighters contain the fire to the lorries and prevented it spreading to nearby units in the yard.”

An investigation into the cause of the fire is taking place this morning.
