Glasgow student raises cash for defibrillator at old school
Megan Thompson hadn't long started at Glasgow University when doctors discovered she had a heart problem.
A women from Bearsden is being praised for raising cash to buy a defibrillator for her old school after discovering she had an irregular heartbeat.
Megan Thompson had not been studying at Glasgow University for very long when she was diagnosed with Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT) .
After having corrective surgery, she decided to fundraise to get the device for Castlehill Primary.
She told Greatest Hits Radio: "In the weeks following the procedure, I found out the cardiologist had died which was a real shock and pushed me to look into cardiovascular health more.
"I quickly learned there was not a defibrillator in my local area and I wanted to do something about this."
Megan then set out to raise the money needed by climbing Ben Lomond and having a bake sale in her garden.
She added: "I felt that the school is a good central hub for the area and my aunty is the headteacher so it just made sense.
"The teachers are planning to show the pupils how to use the defibrillator in an emergency."
