The body of a woman has been found in Ayr today.

Police have confirmed a woman’s body was found in the Rozelle Park area of Ayr, in the early hours of this afternoon.

While she is still to be formally identified, the family of missing 43-year-old Laura Wilkie has been informed.

Police say the death is being treated as unexplained.

It comes a day after Ayrshire Police carried out a stop and speak operation in Ayr close to where Laura was last spotted on December 18 at around 8:10pm.

They stopped and spoke with motorists and members of the public in the Millennium Bridge area throughout the afternoon, and posted on social media that they would following up on information acquired.

When she was last seen, Laura was believed to be wearing all black, with a beige hood and a black rucksack, however the most notable trait was that she carries a distinctive blue cane to help her walk.
