The Eurovision Song contest final takes place this evening in Sweden.

This year's UK entry is Hereford College alumni Olly Alexander, who is aiming to end a 27-year wait for a win in the competition.

Worcester librarian Tom Mandall is a Eurovision superfan and is optimistic that this year could be the one.

He said: "I think if anyone can do it, Olly Alexander can, because the song sounds great and I've just got my fingers crossed that everything goes well.

"The idea that we can be a part of this event which is so big for a full week, and enjoy everything that it brings, is just magical.

"My first time watching was in 2017, and it just changed my world, and ever since then I've been going back over and listening to all the entries and songs that I had missed out on over the years, it's just brilliant."

Lou Aimes-Hill is a lecturer at the University of Worcester and has watched Eurovision since 1991 and says it's always a great event.

"I’ve only missed one Eurovision since I was 11," she said.

"It has such a broad appeal to everyone, and it was an annual event for me and my friends which we would watch when we were growing up, and still do now.

"There's just so much going on, and what's great is that it's a different experience for everyone who watches it."

The final takes place at the Malmo Arena.
