Medal rush for Team GB at Rio Olympics

Team GB have rocketed up the medal table

Team GB found themselves rocket up the medal table last night after an incredible display which saw them winning medals in six different events.

First Steven Scott won a bronze medal in the men's double trap shooting after beating off competition from his team mate Tim Kneale.

Tour De France champion Chris Froome picked up Team GB'S first cycling medal of the 2016 games after a determined final serge secured him bronze in the men's time trial race.

Then Joe Clarke picked up a gold medal after his perfect performance in the men's K1 kayaking event. With a time of 88.53 seconds, Joe secured Team GB's first Olympic medal in the event since Athens 2004.

Not long after Sally Conway fought off her Austrian opponent to secure a bronze medal in the 70kg judo event. After an agonising defeat in the semi-final, Sally regained her composure to grab the bronze.

On a stormy night in Rio, diving duo Jack Laugher and Chris Mears set the arena alight with an incredible display.

Performing in the men's synchronised 3m springboard event, Jack and Chris beat off competition from China and USA to pick up Team GB's first ever Olympic gold in diving.

It was then all eyes on Team GB's Max Whitlock as he secured Britain's first medal in the men's all round Olympic gymnastics since 1908.

It was a nervous wait for Max after an incredible display on the floor left him with a score of 90.641. After watching his competitors in action, it was soon made clear he had a medal, the question was what colour would it be. Following flawless routines by Japan's Kohei Uchimura and Ukraine's Oleg Verniaiev, Max scooped a bronze.

It was also good news for Team GB in the men's rugby sevens. A try in extra time against Argentina in the quarter finals secured them a place in the semi-final against South Africa which will take place today (Thursday 11th August).

Team GB will be hoping to mirror the success of their teammates today when they compete in events such as shooting, archery, rowing and the women's all round gymnastics event later this evening.

Great Britain are currently in ninth place on the medals table with 12 in total. USA lead the way with an impressive 32.
