Part of Bulford Road in Durrington will be closed for two weeks starting toady (Monday 27th June), while a zebra crossing is updated.

Wiltshire Council will be working on the crossing point outside the McColls shop and say they'll 'refurbish it to the latest safety standards'.

Resurfacing will also take in that area, and new road markings painted, with work due to be completed by July 8th.

While contractors are on site, the section of Bulford Road between the Avondown Road junctions will be closed.

That's to keep staff safe, but we are told that access for residents and to use the shop ill be maintained throughout.

An official diversion route has been set up, taking drivers along Larkhill Road, to the roundabout for the A345, north towards Netheravon Road, right onto Hackthorne Road and back down Bulford Road - or vice versa.

The planned diversion route is marked here in blue, but local knowledge might mean there are other ways for drivers to get around the closure

Cllr Dr Mark McClelland, Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for Transport, said:

“We apologise for any inconvenience or delays caused by these works, but this is an essential refurbishment to this pedestrian crossing. The current layout has been in place for a number of years and is in need of upgrading. Maintaining equipment of this age is becoming increasingly difficult.

“Resurfacing the road at the same time makes good sense and is good use of our resources, and in doing so we are making the road safer for all users and avoiding the need for further closures in future years, which helps to minimise disruption.

“As part of our business plan, we are committed to making improving safety and investing in Wiltshire’s roads, and this refurbishment project helps to achieve these aims.”
