From today (Thursday September 1st parking) charges in all Wiltshire Council run car parks have increased.

The local authority has added an extra 10p per hour to each tariff.

So one hour is 10p more, two hours is 20p more etc.

It means up to three hours in the Maltings in Salisbury will rise from £4.70 to £5.00

While all day in the city's Central Car Park ( Long Stay) will rise from £8.90 to £9.90

Blue Badge holders are also being charged for the first time, as well as an inflationary increase to car park season tickets.

The changes from Wiltshire Council follow a public consultation.

The changes were agreed by the council in February, as part of the budget-making process for the financial year 2022/23.

Wiltshire Council stress 'the fees have been changed to better reflect current inflation levels and in response to some rising operational costs."

Blue badge holders now have to pay to park in Wiltshire Council car parks

Cllr Richard Clewer, Leader of Wiltshire Council, said:

“The council agreed these changes following careful consideration of comments received through the statutory consultation exercise.

“Increasing parking charges is always a difficult decision, but we have not increased them in four years and have no intention of doing so for the next four years.

“The new charges will better reflect current inflation levels and rising operational costs, and also follow the strategy set out in our Local Transport Plan.

“We recognise that it may take some time for people to be aware of these changes, particularly Blue Badge holders, and as such our Civil Enforcement Officers will be taking a reasonable and sensible approach to enforcement during the first few weeks.”
