Somerset fish and chip shop crowned the best in the UK
Knights in Glastonbury won the prestigious award at an event last night

A fish and chip shop in Somerset has been crowned the best in the UK - at the 2024 National Fish and Chip awards.
But all of those in the running were right here in the West Country... with one in Bristol only being open for 10 months before coming second runner-up, in the 'bronze medal' position.
Some of the team at Knights Fish and Chips in Glastonbury headed to the venue for the prestigious event - at the Park Plaza in London - while the rest of the team were treated to a pizza party back at the restaurant.
Judges were looking for the best environmental standards, as well as their sustainability practices, levels of customer service and their general knowledge of the fish and chip industry - which Knights Fish and Chips came out on top of.
On their website, the National Federation of Fish Friers revealed how each of the shortlisted businesses have been ‘plaice-d’ grilled with interviews and skills tests by sector specialists - and were even subject to unannounced visits by mystery shoppers.
Knights Fish and Chip Shop has been a local staple in Glastonbury since the late 19th Century - and in 2024, it's still well and truly going strong.

On social media, the winners said: "We honestly can’t thank our wonderful team and you our long serving, fish and chip loving customers enough! From the bottom of our hearts we thank you!
"We look forward to serving you you in THE FISH AND CHIP RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR 2024!!!!"
Also on Instagram, Bristol's Noah's Fish and Chip restaurant said: "Officially 3rd best fish & chip restaurant in the UK!
"It hasn’t really sunk in yet how big an achievement it is to get a podium spot at the National Fish & Chip Awards in just under 10 months of being open.
"We’re incredibly proud of our team and so thankful for how hard they’ve worked to get us to this point.
"It’s a brilliant benchmark for us as we come into spring and summer - we’re excited to keep pushing hard with new development plans and see what Noah’s can grow into - Dan & Joie x"
