Elderly woman dies after being pulled from River Thames in Walton

An investigation is underway in Surrey after the death of an elderly woman who was recovered from the River Thames in Walton.

Surrey Police were called to Walton Bridge at around 6.40pm on Sunday (7April) following reports of a person in the water.

A woman in her 80s was recovered and taken to hospital but sadly died.

The force say they are not currently treating the woman's death as suspicious but an investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of how she came to be in the water.

In a post on Facebook Surrey Police asked for anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward:

"We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and might have seen or heard anything that could assist.

"Were you in the area between 6.30pm and 6.45pm? Did you see a White woman in her 80s wearing a dark hooded puffed coat, red long-sleeved top, black leggings, and black sheepskin boots in the area?

"A grey Toyota Yaris believed to belong to her was found nearby. Did you see this being driven to the area near Walton Bridge?

"If you have CCTV, dashcam or helmet cam footage that may be relevant, or any information that might assist, please DM us quoting PR/45240038960."
