Police are appealing for information after a swan was found with a crossbow bolt through her neck in Farnham.

The female bird is one of a pair who live permanently in the ornamental pond at Waverley Manor.

The swan was found injured on 18 January and was taken to the swan sanctuary at Shepperton where she had an operation to remove the bolt.

The swan has made a full recovery, and is now back with her now rather less distraught male partner.

In a post on Facebook Waverley Police said:

"As far as is known they are quite an old couple of swans, and as they have one partner for life, this could have been very distressing for the male had the result been different.

"If you have seen anyone with a crossbow in this area of Farnham, or if you saw any person or any suspicious activity around the pond at Waverley Manor during the afternoon and early evening on Tuesday 18 January 2022, please contact Surrey Police quoting reference 45220006651"
