Jack Grealish has donated £5,000 to the family of a Solihull girl who died following a car accident on Sunday.

22-year-old Paige Rice, from Marston Green, died in hospital after she was travelling as a passenger in a car which collided with a taxi in Queensway Tunnel in Liverpool.

Former Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish, who did not know Paige, is now the top donator to a GoFundMe set up to help support her family following the incident.

The GoFundMe paige raised £18,000 in just six hours

More than £28,000 has already been raised on the site, which paid tribute to Paige: "She was such an amazing woman with such a clean heart who had so much love to give."

"Anyone she met she had a huge impact on and a smile that would light up any room. An inspiring woman who had so much life to live and goals to achieve, she has left so many with empty hearts."

Jack Grealish also paid tribute, saying "RIP Paige" on an Instagram story, and by expressing his support for Paige's family on Twitter: "So sorry for your loss! My thoughts are with all your family and friends especially yourself and your mom!"

Merseyside Police are investigating the incident after they were called to the scene in the early hours of the morning, at 12:25am on Sunday 17 October.

The male driver of the car which collided with the taxi remains in hospital in a critical condition, while the taxi driver is also in hospital after suffering serious injuries.

Queensway Tunnel in Liverpool is still closed while the incident is being dealt with, and police are asking drivers to find a different route.

Matrix Inspector Mark Worrell said: “The incident is currently under investigation and I would ask anyone who saw anything prior to the collision which could assist our enquiries to get in touch.

“It is believed that prior to entering the tunnel the Audi had been in collision with another vehicle on the Hunter Street roundabout. We are currently examining a number of lines of enquiry.”
