Norfolk's Police and Crime Commissioner is telling us preventing crime, will be at the heart of her work, over the next few years

Sarah Taylor was elected to the role with over 52k votes in an election which had a 21 per cent turnout- meaning she's the first woman to hold the office

There was a turnout of just over 21% in this PCC election, with 149,165 votes being cast.

What has Sarah Taylor promised to do?

Some of the things she stood on in this election, include:

· Prevention, making us safer across the county, and reducing the numbers of young people drawn into crime.

· Making our roads safer by using the “Vision Zero” approach to reduce the numbers of people killed or sustaining life-changing injuries on our roads.

· Tackling violence against women and girls which accounts for some of the highest crime rates reported. High-profile scandals have drastically undermined many women’s confidence in reporting crimes, leaving us feeling less safe. Confidence must be restored, and perpetrators brought to justice.

· Faster response times to crimes and improved support for victims, to improve the experience of residents and businesses in our rural areas.

· Addressing organized crime, whether it is County Lines, scams or shoplifting to order, and helping victims with what can be devastating effects.

What does a Police and Crime Commissioner do?

-Ensure there's effective and efficient policing in the county

-Appoint the Chief Constable, hold them to account for running the force, and if necessary, dismiss them.

-Set the police and crime objectives for their area through a police and crime plan;

-Set the force budget and determine the precept

-Contribute to the national and international policing capabilities set out by the Home Secretary

-Bring together community safety and criminal justice partners, to make sure local priorities are joined up.

What's next?

Ms Sarah Taylor will officially take on the role next week, with the next PCC election to be held in 2028.
