Man charged with murder of Malton woman found in River Derwent

The victim has been named as 49-year-old Lisa Welford

A woman who died after being pulled from the River Derwent on Wednesday has been named by police as 49-year-old Lisa Welford from Malton.

Detectives have charged a 47-year-old Malton man with murder. They say he was known to Lisa, and is due to appear at court tomorrow (29th April).

Detective Chief Inspector Shaun Page said:

“Our thoughts are with Lisa’s family and friends at this very sad time.

“We have charged a 47-year-old man with murder. We understand the disruption and distress it has caused locally, and I want to thank the community for their patience and support as we continue to investigate this isolated incident.

Police were called to the river at 11.40pm on Wednesday (24th April) following reports of the woman in the water.

Members of the public and police officers pulled her out and performed CPR but she was later pronounced dead at hospital.
