An inquest has ruled that there was nothing a driver could have done to avoid a collision which killed a teenager as he crossed the A64 in North Yorkshire.

George sawyer, 18, was killed in March last year.

The driver of the BMW told the inquest at Northallerton Coroner's Court how he was driving home in the early hours of the morning on the carriageway near Tadcaster when George appeared “out of no where”.

The impact smashed his windscreen and he then pulled over and called the police.

The inquest heard how George had been drinking heavily with friends at a pub earlier that night and had inadvertently strayed into the road as he made his way back to his accommodation at Askham College.

The coroner concluded he would have died instantly and his death has been recorded as the result of a road traffic accident.
