Young people with special educational needs and disabilities in Bridlington are being encouraged to do a creative workshop.

It is so they can meet others, socialise, share ideas, learn new skills and also help them feel more independent.

It involves 'Hear Me out', a young person's engagement group, run by charity KIDS in the East Riding and paid for by the Dynamix Friends Fund and the National Lottery Community Fund.

It is free and takes place on Saturday 20th August with workshop times at 12pm until 1.30pm and 1.30pm until 3pm at Bridlington Community Hub located on 2a Marshall Avenue, YO15 2DS.

Activities include build-a-bear style and clay modelling.

Darren Clarkson, Young People's Participation and Engagement Co-ordinator at KIDS and YPEG, said: "There's a massive need out there for people with special educational needs and disabilities to build those peer friendships. There are a lot of services out there who do an amazing job but to make things accessible, to be able to be fully included, fully involved and be part of their specific needs, there's quite a lot of skills, training and support to make that happen.

"The young people really go out of their own way to work together, to make each other feel included and some of the parents are brilliant at being on handle and volunteering. Together it really works and we've still got spaces for people to involved as well. A lot of our young people come from Bridlington and the surrounding areas.

"We've still got space for new members to come and join us. It's basically people getting involved, having their say and having a positive outcome from that making a difference, which is what this group is all about. We're linking with more schools, councils and young people in different types of capacities so we can get more young people to have their say on what matters to them."
