Following on from the huge success of live-action remakes of Disney classics The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast, it looks like the 1992 hit Aladdin will now also be getting the same treatment.

On movie site IMDB Will Smith's name is featured under the cast list. The actor was reportedly lined up to take part in Dumbo until scheduling conflicts with Bad Boys III meant he had to pull out. However as that project has suffered a setback as they search for a director, it seems it's paved the way for Will's involvement in Aladdin.

Guy Ritchie is set to direct the film and has said of the project "My stories are really about street hustlers. That's what I know how to do. And Aladdin is a classic street hustler who makes good."

The search is underway to find two relatively unknown actors to play Aladdin and Princess Jasmine.

The Genie was originally voiced by Robin Williams who improvised a lot of his lines and made the character so memorably quirky. It will be interesting to see what spin the Men In Black star puts on the role!

Disney's latest live-action release, Beauty and the Beast, has become the first film of 2017 to gross $1 billion worldwide.

Disney fans are also excited about the new take on The Lion King. The film will be directed by Jon Favreau, who directed the live-action version of The Jungle Book, and will see James Earl Jones reprise his role as Mufasa.
