There is definitely a Britain’s Got Talent shaped-hole in our lives since the show was cancelled in 2021 due to the pandemic.

However, judge Alesha Dixon has revealed that the show WILL be back in 2022.

Admitting that’s she’s excited to finally be reunited with fellow judges Simon Cowell, David Walliams and Amanda Holden and hosts Ant and Dec, Alesha teased that the new series will be worth the wait.

It's yet to be announced whether Simon will be back on the judging panel after he had to miss the 2020 series following an accident which left him in hospital. He was replaced by Ashley Banjo.

Asked if she had missed filming, she told OK!: “We’ve missed each other and we’ve really missed the show. Of course, everyone who works on the show appreciated it, but when something is taken away from you, you have a bigger appreciation for it. I think the first day back is going to be like a party. Fingers crossed I’ll have a lovely Christmas because I know that as soon as Christmas is over, BGT is back on the road.”

Back in January this year, ITV confirmed that the entertainment show was scrapped for 2021 and filming for the 2020 series was stopped following the audition stages.

Because of the start of the pandemic, bosses were able to socially-distance film the live shows, which featured a virtual audience.

In a statement at the time, ITV said: "Despite everyone at ITV, Thames and Syco doing their best to make it happen, and with our absolute priority of safeguarding the well-being and health of every person involved in the programme from judges, hosts and contestants to all of the crew and audience, the decision has been made to – unfortunately – move the record and broadcast of the 15th series of Britain’s Got Talent to 2022.

"BGT is known for its diversity of talent with big dance groups, wonderful choirs and lavish orchestras at its heart, and it has become clear that not only is it not possible to film auditions with these types of acts in a secure way but also that they are not able to adequately rehearse and prepare safely.

"Safety has to come first and, as a result, the recording of the show can’t currently go ahead as planned."

We can’t wait for BGT to be back on our screens!
