There's a warning for Dorchester residents about possible overnight noise from railway works this week.

Track maintenance is taking place between 11.00pm and 6.00am for the next three nights (Monday March 4th, Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th) on the Weymouth to Bristol line.

Network Rail say that while staff are expected to keep disturbance to a minimum the equipment being used means that some noise is quite likely.

In a statement, they've said:

“Our teams will be working to install some track components which allow the smooth operation of switches – where trains change from, one track to another. For this work we will be using small equipment and hand tools.

“The equipment we use means some noise is unavoidable and we sincerely apologise for this in advance.”

This work comes just three weeks before further railway work between Dorchester West and Weymouth.

Network Rail will be renewing tracks and carrying out some structural work from Monday 18th to Wednesday 20th March.

While that's underway, buses will replace trains for all stops between Dorchester South and Weymouth.

Bus replacement services will also be running on Sunday 17th March between Yeovil Pen Mill and Weymouth.
